B GRADE
Ballan def Clunes 30 – 27
C GRADE
Ballan def Clunes 38 – 29
Our A grade girls put in another great performance this week. With multiple players out with illness and prior commitments, the depth of the team shone through. Katelyn McGregor played a magnificent game and dominated her opponent. Despite some wonderful turnovers, the girls were unable to capitalise on these and went down by 10 goals, 45 to 35. B grade girls continued their strong start to the season with a win over Clunes. The game produced a strong contest with many lead changes throughout the day. Mel Conroy was instrumental in the defensive circle and directed play confidently. The team was able to pull away in the end with a win.
C grade played their first game for the season and came way with a strong win against Clunes! The team worked exceptionally well under the warm conditions, with a great strong performance by our mid court, with Meg McGannon in WA and Eliza Scott in C, who to continued to bring the ball down the court and feed into the ring; where our goalers precise shooting assisted the team in holding the lead throughout the game. Defence continued to work hard right throughout the game to turn over the ball and provide intense pressure on the opposing team. An amazingly great start to the season for our C graders.
JUNIOR NETBALL
17 & UNDER
Clunes def Ballan 45 – 6
Ballan U17’s were once again faced with many challenges at Clunes, however, it did not hinder their determination. The girls were given the challenge from training to focus on their own role within the team and to continue building confidence on executing their foundational skills. Each quarter the team improved on delivering to this challenge, especially in the second and third quarter limiting Clunes to less than 8 goals each quarter. Ava Conally and Poppy stepped up into leader roles throughout the game both adapting to positional changes to help move the ball into Ballan’s goal end. Ava putting her body on the line each quarter for her team mates and Poppy excelling on her centre pass drives. Despite the final score, the U17’s did not give up. They executed skills we have been practicing at training and responded to quarter time feedback each time they took the court. The skill and confidence growing within this team is super exciting for weeks to come.
15 & UNDER
Clunes def Ballan 23 -11
Ballan U15’s took on Clunes this week for their second match of the season. A disappointing start due to basic skill errors and turnovers, which gave Clunes many more opportunities to score. As a result, we were playing catch up for the entire match. Several different combinations were trialled and we worked our way back into the game. Special mention must go to Stella, who continued to push through a trying game and played in both attack and defence as did Eva Parente who ran tirelessly in the C and WA position.
13A & UNDER
Clunes def Ballan 12 -7
The girls started a little rusty with a couple of errors but they stepped it up in the second quarter and gave it their all. Charlotte Grech was our best on for the day as she demonstrated her great defensive skills in Centre and was getting a hand to pretty much everything! Aimee and Alice worked very hard to try slow down the Clunes shooter but unfortunately went down to 12 Clunes and Ballan 7.
13B & UNDER
Ballan def Clunes 12 -8
Wow what a game for our 13B team! While we welcomed our new U13s coach Megon Fenwick, the girls embraced the change and played amazing. Our shooter, Eva and Brandi and Dakota Mulgrew were on fire and shooting so well. The girls adapted very well to a lot of changes and different combinations and come out with a win!

Clunes def Ballan
Whilst the Blues suffered another loss on the board, costing the game with many turnovers the boys showed glimpses of what they can achieve wit focus and hard work. Training is so important for the playing group going forward and Tristan is committed to keep working at it. Tom Cox was a stand up during his senior debut and as mentioned in the junior wrap up, he didn’t look out of place at all, along with the other boys. Ryan Bongart and Dylan Trickey word hard all day.
JUNIOR FOOTBALL
UNDER 18s
Our under 18s had their first win of the year, opening the account with 4 first term goals! They were able to control the game for the first half, but in the second half Clunes really lifted and our poor goal accuracy tightened up the match but, our boys we able to come away with the win! Coach Johnny Mullane was pleased with the efforts of all players but acknowledged the boys lacked some accuracy in front of goals however is confident that with further training and focus, the boys will tighten up this skill. Johnny applauded the efforts of Tom Cox, Lucas Smits and Mack Popple (featured in the first photo of this week’s newsletter; left to right) who also played well in their senior football debut for the Blues, we’re all very proud of these boys who received feedback from senior coach Tristan, that they did not look out of place at all!
UNDER 15s
No game played due to Clunes forfeit.
UNDER 12s
Our little superstars got their first win for the year! Clunes we’re a few short on numbers so we sent them a few players to make the game possible, so a big thank you to those players! It was a big team effort on the weekend making it hard to pick the best. Coach Harley thought Ned Conroy was a stand out with his run and carry, the first year u12 players have slotted into the team quite easily with two first years kicking a goals being Ashton McFall and Edward Bayard, other goals were Angus Eskdale and Taylon Marsh. Coach Harley looks forward to being blown away by their talent again next week, go Blues!
