Round 4 has come and gone, time flies when you’re having fun doesn’t it!?
After a big day out at Rokewood, the Blues ventured into Ballarat to support our partners at the Black Hill Hotel enjoying a well deserved meal.
REDEVELOPMENT UPDATEWhile we wait for our new home, we are SO lucky to have been gifted with temporary rooms complete with toilets and showers. A big, warm and heart felt THANK YOU to past player, Coach, Club President and now Life Member, Marty Conroy. Marty rejoined our club last year in an extra special way as son Ned (U12 football) and daughter Milly (13&Under netball) began their sporting careers with the Blues.

It’s been a team effort, and we now have a warm and light space for all our players to have a change room facility and a warm shower after trainings if they wish. Parents are most welcome to wait in the warm during training and the facilities are there for the entire club to use. Thank you Marty and the team, we look forward to being on the other side of this build with your ongoing support and clubman ship!

Another tough opponent awaited the Ballan A grade this week. Despite some fantastic plays, the team weren’t able to shutdown a quick Rokewood midcourt. Player combinations across the court are strengthening each week as the A grade girls continue to build on their performances. Meg Fenwick stepped up and played a fantastic game, however, Ballan were outclassed by an experienced Rokewood side. With chilly conditions adding to the challenge, the B grade side took to the court against a tall opposition. Rokewood proved to be a competitive side, however glimpses of brilliance saw Ballan take the lead after half time. The team welcomed new inclusion Gabby Wardell, who slotted in seamlessly. Sarah Ryan played her best game yet and was critical to the defensive transitions across the court. Ballan held the lead for the remainder of the game, claiming a 24 to 20 victory.
This week seen C grade come away with their 3rd win for the season against Rokewood. The team maintained their strong defence and agile mid court performance to ensure the all moved seamlessly down the court into the goals. With an injury mid second quarter, the team was able to readjust as needed to ensure smooth transition to keep the lead right throughout the game. The team continues to work hard on and off the court, and are looking forward to this weeks game against Springbank.

17 & UNDER
Rokewood def Ballan 14 -12
Wow, what a game from our U17’s! With our full team, the U17’s came to play Saturday. The girls took the court and executed game play exceptionally well. Tarlia played an unfamiliar position at WA where she took the challenge with two hands and delivered. She made strong drives in our attack end to get the ball to our shooters. Poppy also had a strong consistent game in our mid court, directing our younger players and demonstrating great leadership on court. Both girls earning themselves best on. All girls fought to the end for their team to try and get the win but unfortunately fell short. A win is in sight for these hard working girls.
15 & UNDER
Ballan def Rokewood 26 -8
The Under 15s had a great first win against Rokewood. They were able to score earlier, which gave them confidence and they continued to build on this throughout the game. The defence end which consisted of Stella, Niahm and Audrey Healy worked well as a unit, playing tight, reading the play and getting plenty of rebounds. The midcourt of Tiana and Eva Parente provided the connection between defence and attack and produced some great passes into our goalers. Both Charlie and Katie Gorman worked really well as a combination and their accuracy this week really paid off. Every member of the team played a great game but special mention must go to Katie Gorman whose accuracy in front of goal was crucial and Audrey who provided plenty of options when moving the ball from defence to attack. Well done girls!
13A & UNDER
Ballan def Rokewood 14 -7
Ballan girls came out really strong in our first quarter. Taking on board what we did at training and implementing it into our game. Ruby Sims played amazing in goal attack, shooting and moving good. She got our best on for the day. Our defenders work great as usual and shut down Rokewood attack. Also our best one, Tarlya played amazing in wing defence and attack creating strong drives and options down the court. Well done on a win girls!
13B & UNDER
Our 13B girls played really well, Dakota and Brandi Mulgrew working amazing in the shooting ring together. Eden Batten and Milly Greg work really well together in centre court however unfortunately loosing to Rokewood in the end.

In the senior side the Blues started well and were up for a fight early in the game. The Blues allowed Rokewood to get away in the second quarter however came back to win the following quarter. Eventually losing to a strong Rokewood, but the boys tried hard all day! Best on for the day was H.Bongart and L.Conlan with D.Nielson demonstrating good form.
JUNIOR FOOTBALL
UNDER 18s

A very undermanned 18s team headed to Rokewood this week, the boys tried hard all day against a very silky and fit grasshopper outfit in slippery conditions. Tyler Pearce and tom cox were excellent in the midfield and Jack Santos played his best game for the season all around the ground ! Our defence was under pressure most of the day and was lead well by Mack Popple. The boys will have a big week on the track before they take on Springbank away this week.
UNDER 15s
Ballan 15.6 96 def Rokewood 4.9 33
The under 15s had a solid 63-point win and now sit second on the ladder. The win was set up in the first half with the Blues kicking 10 goals to Rokewood’s two goals. Logan Monterosso and James Mullane were fantastic in the midfield, while Noah Pace (8 goals) and Clancy Matheson (4 goals) were far too good for Rokewood’s defence. Sarah Burton played a great game on the wing as did Connor McBride in the centre. The team has a bye round this week as Springbank do not have under 15s.

Our young side battled through hard all game on Saturday but Rokewood were just to good in the end. Brody Grech fought hard all day in the backline, Yilmaz was best for us on the day with his run and carry through the middle of the field, well done Yilmaz! We welcomed first gamer Nathan, who showed us he is ready for a big year with the Blues!
