Round 7 approaches quickly with the Blues second ‘home’ game of the season that will be played at Maddingly oval in Bacchus Marsh, due to our redevelopment. We’re excited to be playing this weekend against what we know will be a competitive side in Bungaree.

Black Tie Ball
A big thank you to St Anne’s Winery for hosting our annual ball event, from all reports it was a great night had by all and it was fantastic to enjoy this event again after two years!
Lightening Premiership
Football and Netball ‘buddy’ sessions
Our junior football enjoyed a combined training session with our senior club thanks to coach Harley Bongart and all of the senior boys for organising, running drills and working with our juniors, we know they loved it and couldn’t stop talking about how much fun they had!
In addition, we held our netball ‘buddy’ training night just last night (26 May) in preparation for Saturday, where all senior netball will assist their junior buddies with their game on Saturday. We look forward to further integrating our junior and senior club throughout the year in both football and netball.
Outside the Locker Room (OTLR)
We were lucky enough to welcome OTLR to the club to bring us two sessions, Mental Health and Leadership & Culture. OTLR does such important work, and ensured that as a club we engaged in important conversations and acknowledge the key values of leadership and club culture. We’ve been able to note key learnings and will take away valuable insight and information to improve our club as we move onward and upward.

People dying on our roads with a BAC above 0.05 have dropped significantly over the years, however there are still too many deaths each year. There are things you can do to make yourself safer on our roads. Don’t drink and drive, get home safely.

A long drive out to Beaufort this week but the weather conditions were favourable. B grade had a tight contest, going goal for goal most of the game. Maddie Alcock was dominant across the court however a few costly turnovers saw Beaufort pull ahead, sealing victory 24 to Ballan 20. The A grade faced another challenging opponent this week. With tall goalers and defenders up either end, Beaufort didn’t make it easy. Erynn Vella tried hard all day but unfortunately we went down 66-16

Our U17 girls worked so hard all day, defence achieving many turnovers and the girls fighting hard for the win all day but in the end Beaufort came away with a very close win. Lots of positives to take away and the girls will continue to work hard at training.
15 & UNDER

What a lovely day it was to play a game of netball on Saturday. It certainly agreed with the girls this week. We were one girl down this week and Tahlia Jamieson filled in for us seamlessly which ensured our team didn’t miss a beat. We got off to a great start, scoring early, which always gets our confidence up and our defence end got a few tips and intercepts, which set the scene for the rest of the match. Both Niamh, Audrey Healy and Amy played tight and worked extremely well as a defensive unit. They provided lots of turnover opportunities which we were able to capitalise on. Our attack end also got on a roll, working together to create space for each other and delivering balls out in front of the player which gave the opposition very little opportunities to tip or intercept. Our goalers of Charlie and Katie Gorman worked well as a combination and you can see they are working better as a unit rather than as 2 individuals. The connections between Eva Parente, Tiyana Budinoski and the goalers is becoming better each week. We are reducing are unforced errors which is making such a difference to the outcome of the game. Keep up the hard work girls and you will keep improving!

In the senior side the Blues started well and were up for a fight early in the game. The Blues allowed Beaufort to get away in the second half however eventually losing the day. Lots of things to improve on from what was a very winnable game for our seniors. Best on for the day was Daniel Nielsen, Jay Homewood, Benjamin Neumann, Harley Bongart, Matthew Smith-Bye, Ryan Bongart.
It was great to get a win on the board in our Reserves side! It was a great team effort with every person doing there part, our back six were solid and shut down nearly every opportunity that the Beaufort forwards presented. Mitch Thompson worked the centre line back and forth with both helping the backline and attacking the goals in the forward line booting 2 goals, Jack Bidwell in only his third senior age game controlled the football well around the field, Matt White dominated the opposing ruckman and gave the Blues the first use of the ball out of the stoppages. Tristan Batten and Justin Fenwick were important players in the forward line as well as Aiden McPherson kicking 3 goals on the run which gave the best chance of victory over the crows. Big shout out to the U18s filling in on call week by week, they are part of reason for getting our side on the track, your help and commitment is appreciated!

UNDER 18s
The boys travelled to Beaufort heavily undermanned due to injuries and with lingering viruses, they were boosted by some under 15 boys who all played well especially coming up to play a second game! They boys continue to improve each week and are getting to know each other better. Tom Cox continued his brilliant form controlling both ends of the ground with heavy tags, Kobayne Nathan won a large amount of ruck duels, Tyler Pearce was able to make the most of that work. Jayce and Clancy (U15s) were very good contributors in the forward line. We head to Bacchus Marsh this week against Bungaree which we anticipate to be a very close match.
UNDER 15s
After a sluggish start the team had a commanding 92-point win! Beaufort applied some great pressure during the first quarter with the Blues only leading by 13 points at the first change. After a couple of position changes at quarter time the Ballan boys turned it on in the second quarter kicking 6 goals to no score. Logan Monterosso, Clancy Matheson, and Connor McBride were really hard at the contest, while the backline repelled everything Beaufort throw at them. The Blues didn’t let up the pressure in the second half and kicked away. The score could have been greater if the team’s goal kicking accuracy was better on the day. Ciaran Boland played a great game across half forward, while Noah Pace (5 goals) and Jed Fenwick (6 goals) were too good for the Beaufort backline. Braydon McFall (3 goals) and Sarah Burton on the wing get better each week. The win was a great team effort!
UNDER 12s
The team took a while to defrost on the frozen Beaufort ground but when they got going they battled through well. Brody Grech and Jay Fenwick won some important 2 against 1s in the backline and whilst they were out numbered, they were determined to not the ball get past them. Taylon and Cash Marsh linked up well around the ground. Lachie Grech and Ned Conroy put their body on the line smothering and getting on the bottom of the packs. Captains Charlie Black and Banjo did all they could but with a couple of Beaufort’s top age boys hard to stop, and Beaufort came out on top.
